Synaptics Creates Music Control Interface for New Samsung Mobile Phone

SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 21, 2006 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Synaptics Incorporated (Nasdaq: SYNA), a leading developer of interface solutions for mobile computing, communications and entertainment devices, has created a custom MobileTouch(TM) interface which provides music controls for the Samsung SPH-B3100 mobile phone. The integration of the MobileTouch solution in the Samsung design illustrates the ongoing trend toward thinner, more stylized form factors, as well as the focus on delivering music-on-demand (MOD) services that give consumers instant access to digital music.

The elegant three button MobileTouch interface provides MOD controls on the outside the clamshell phone. The interface modules were custom designed by Synaptics to be exceptionally thin, approximately 0.8mm, meeting Samsung's requirements for compact phone design. Additionally, the sensor is mounted beneath the plastic of the phone, lending to its sleek design and durability.

"Synaptics is pleased to support Samsung's ongoing efforts to deliver music on demand by designing intuitive interface controls," explains Clark Foy, Synaptics vice president of marketing. "As multimedia content on mobile phones increases, intelligently designed interface controls become increasingly critical. With our MobileTouch solutions, Samsung has created a convenient and easy to use interface for mobile music."

"Samsung continues to design phones that illustrate our values for quality, extraordinary design, and essential multimedia features," explains Samsung's Mobile Communications Division. "The Synaptics interface allows us to create sleek and thin designs that also improve the user experience, enhancing Samsung's reputation for award-winning design."

The Samsung SPH-B3100 is available in Korea.
