Synaptics Announces Four New DDICs including Industry's First to Support Ultra-HD for Smartphones, Tablets

SAN JOSE, Calif., July 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Synaptics Inc. (NASDAQ: SYNA), the leading developer of human interface solutions, today announced four new display driver integrated circuit (DDIC) solutions, including the industry's first DDIC supporting Ultra-High-Definition (UHD) resolution. These new feature-rich products - developed in Synaptics' Japan Design Center - add to the company's industry leading portfolio of DDICs supporting global OEMs' breadth of smartphones and tablets ranging from flagship products to mid- to low-end models.

Synaptics' full DDIC lineup provides comprehensive support for panel resolutions ranging from HD, Full HD (FHD), Wide Quad HD (WQHD), to Ultra HD (UHD). These latest solutions feature the industry's smallest chip size, with lowest power and fewest required external components due to the single chip design - all while providing the absolute highest image quality.

Synaptics' DDIC solutions enable the industry's only billion color displays supported by our innovative Local Area Auto Contrast Optimization (ACO) technology. Unlike conventional global ACO, which utilizes the same tone curve throughout the display area, Synaptics' Local Area ACO drives optimal contrast compensation for every domain of the display image resulting in a different tone curve for every pixel.

Color space management is improved using a new color enhancement (CE Version 4.0) function that can adjust the white level independently of RGBCMY for precise control - a Synaptics-exclusive feature. Additional image quality advancements are enabled by Synaptics' original Super Scaling technology, producing non-jagged and smooth images, and surpassing conventional scaling that uses the nearest neighbor method.

"Our broad portfolio of DDICs, coupled with our first-to-market UHD leadership puts Synaptics in a unique position to take advantage of key trends in the smartphone industry, positioning our LCM partners to lead the market by delivering the highest quality display technology," said Kevin Barber, senior vice president and general manager, Smart Display Division, Synaptics.

Availability
R63424 (UHD), R63450B (WQHD), R63350 (FHD), and R61350 (HD) are sampling today at key LCMs.
