Synaptics' SmartTouch(TM) Technology Makes Multimedia Buttons Easy to Customize for Notebook Computers

SANTA CLARA, Calif. and TAIPEI, Taiwan, June 4, 2007 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Synaptics Incorporated (Nasdaq: SYNA), a leading developer of interface solutions for mobile computing, communications, and entertainment devices, today introduced SmartTouch(TM), a software-configurable auxiliary interface for notebook PCs. With SmartTouch, manufacturers of notebook computers can offer their customers the advanced functionality and customizability of a software-configurable LightTouch(TM) control bar with on-screen display.

Synaptics' SmartTouch solution replaces conventional multimedia buttons with virtual contextual controls that automatically adapt to the software application that is being used at the time to present customized browser, media player, DVD player, or system controls. Users can also personalize touch control behavior, including audio feedback, touch sensitivity, illumination, control functions and control placement.
