Synaptics First to Achieve Microsoft Precision Touchpad Certification for Windows 8.1

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Synaptics Inc. (NASDAQ: SYNA), a leading developer of human interface solutions, today announced that its TouchPad™ solution is the first to be certified under the Precision Touchpad (PTP) program for Windows 8.1-based PCs and notebooks. A collaborative effort between Synaptics and Microsoft, the PTP program aims to enhance and standardize PC touchpad functionality with greater uniformity and support for new and exciting Windows 8.1 features that put interactive touch at the heart of the consumer experience.

As computing evolves, touch input has become more integral than ever before. New OS developments like Windows 8.1 brings touch front-and-center for the user. As such, the touch functionality on next-generation Windows 8.1-enabled devices must provide the absolute best in quality, accuracy and ease-of-use.

Collaboration on the PTP program has strengthened the integration process between OEM suppliers and touch component suppliers such as Synaptics. As the first industry touchpad to become PTP certified, the Synaptics solution is qualified to provide smoother scrolling, improved pinch to zoom and on overall greater uniformity of experience for the most seamless and sophisticated level of touchpad interaction. Synaptics is also working with a number of other OEMs on similar PTP programs for devices expected to ship later this year.
