Synaptics Designs Custom Interface Solution for the LG JM50 HDD Music Player
SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb 28, 2005 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Synaptics Incorporated (Nasdaq: SYNA), a leading developer of interface solutions for mobile computing, communications and entertainment devices, has announced a new LightTouch(TM) capacitive interface solution for the JM50, LG's first hard disk drive (HDD) music player.
The custom LightTouch interface solution provides nine capacitive buttons for quick and easy access to critical functions, such as Play/Pause, directional controls, volume, menu, and song information. Through a unique LED array, users can personalize their device by choosing one of seven colors for their buttons and LCD display. Mounted underneath stylish embossed plastic, the LightTouch interface, with its customizable lighting options, creates a fun and unique design.
"Synaptics has developed a user interface that delivers a compelling and differentiated industrial design for LG's entrance into the hard drive-based MP3 market," explains Clark Foy, Synaptics vice president of marketing. "The custom LightTouch interface in the LG JM50 is another example of how innovative interface design can help define device brand identity."
"For our first hard disk drive MP3 player design, we wanted to create a device that would excite users while providing an attention-grabbing alternative to boring, cold designs," explains Kyung-Soo Park, LG Electronics' executive vice president, DAV Division. "Synaptics' technology affords us the flexibility to focus on design and aesthetics, creating a revolutionary user interface that is both fun and easy to use."
The LG JM50 HDD music player is a 5GB HDD music player with FM radio and recording, voice recording and line-input recording that supports MP3, WMA, and OGG formats. The JM50 also boasts a battery life of approximately 10 hours and will be available in March 2005 in Korea, China, Taiwan, Europe and surrounding areas.
