Display Industry Awards Honor Industry-First Clear ID Optical In-Display Fingerprint Sensor
LOS ANGELES, Calif., May 16, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- DISPLAY WEEK -- Synaptics Incorporated (NASDAQ: SYNA), the leading developer of human interface solutions, today announced the distinguished Society for Information Display (SID) has named Synaptics’ Clear ID™ optical-based in-display fingerprint sensor technology as Component of the Year. Designed to enable smartphones with OLED infinity displays, Synaptics’ Clear ID in-display fingerprint sensors are placed in a natural location directly in the touchscreen, eliminating the need for buttons and enabling larger bezel-free displays. Clear ID is now available in retail stores on Vivo X20 Plus UD and Vivo X21 UD smartphones.
Presented by SID, the 2018 Display Industry Awards (DIAs) recognize innovative display products, components, and applications that hold the most promise for shaping the future of the global display industry. The DIAs are awarded each year in three categories: Display of the Year, Display Application of the Year, and Display Component of the Year.
“We are delighted to award Synaptics a Display Component of the Year Award for its Clear ID optical in-display fingerprint sensor,” said Wei Chen, SID’s Display Industry Awards Committee Chairman. “The Display Industry Awards are SID’s highest honor, presented to recognize the best display products or applications introduced to the market during the previous calendar year. On behalf of SID, we would like to commend Synaptics’ ongoing commitment to innovation and to helping shape the future of display performance and solutions.”
“It is truly an honor to accept this prestigious award for Clear ID on behalf of the highly talented Synaptics team,” said Kevin Barber, senior vice president and general manager, Mobile Division, Synaptics. “We believe consumers prefer fingerprint authentication on the front of the phone, and with the industry moving towards bezel-free OLED infinity displays, the natural placement of the fingerprint sensor is in the display itself.”
Synaptics fingerprint sensors are available with highly secure SentryPoint™ technology, offering OEMs a wide-range of unique authentication software including: Quantum Matcher™ for adaptive fingerprint template matching and authentication; SecureLink™ which combines support for TLS protocol with ECC authentication and AES encryption; and PurePrint™ anti-spoof technology to help distinguish between fake or spoofed fingerprints and actual live fingers. PurePrint drivers are regularly updated with new devices to combat new spoofing techniques and materials.
