Synaptics ChiralMotion(TM) Technology Provides Intuitive Touch Scrolling for Consumer Electronics Devices
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct 01, 2007 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Synaptics Inc. (Nasdaq: SYNA), a leading developer of human interface solutions for mobile computing, communications and entertainment devices, today announced the availability of its ChiralMotion(TM) technology, an advanced gesture that provides an innovative alternative to conventional scrolling.
Traditional scrolling methods, such as the scrollbar, wheel and scrolling region are more restrictive and less efficient. With Synaptics ChiralMotion technology, the user can apply one continuous circular motion to initiate precise and fine-tuned scrolling on any two-dimensional input surface such as Synaptics TouchPad(TM), NavPoint(TM) and ClearPad(TM) solutions.
This patent-pending technology is applicable to consumer, communications and business devices. Synaptics ChiralMotion technology is extremely well- suited for small handheld products such as feature-rich mobile handsets, personal navigation systems and personal media players that require easy access for entertainment, music and other digital files. Scrolling through long documents or pages on a notebook PC becomes simple when using a TouchPad enhanced with ChiralMotion. To reverse the direction of scrolling, users would only need to reverse the circular motion of their finger.
"ChiralMotion is another powerful example of Synaptics technology designed to make the user experience most intuitive and rewarding in notebook and entertainment devices," said Mark Vena, Vice President of Synaptics' PC Business Unit. "ChiralMotion is part of Synaptics' growing library of gestures developed to create an enjoyable user experience by making complex technology easier to use."
"IDC predicted that touch-based interface technology was going to start to dramatically impact PCs and other technology devices in 2007," said Bob O'Donnell, IDC Vice President, Clients and Displays. "As devices continue to grow more sophisticated, people are looking for means of interacting with them that are more immediate and more intuitive. Innovations around human interfaces are going to be the most important factors in driving the sales of new electronics devices for many years to come."
Synaptics ChiralMotion technology is now available in PC peripheral and mobile devices, with more products being announced in late 2007.
