Synaptics Capacitive Scrolling Solution Featured in New Logitech V500 Cordless Notebook Mouse
SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct 18, 2004 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Synaptics(R) Incorporated (Nasdaq: SYNA), a leading developer of interface solutions for mobile computing, communications and entertainment devices, has introduced a new scrolling solution in the Logitech(R) V500 Cordless Notebook Mouse, announced earlier today by Logitech. The new mouse uses Synaptics' customized four-way ScrollStrip(TM) solution that completely revolutionizes the scrolling experience. The Synaptics ScrollStrip technology provides horizontal and vertical scrolling in a thin, flexible sensor design. This is the first time Synaptics' capacitive technology, which has shipped in over one hundred million consumer devices since 1995, has been integrated into a mouse.
The two dimensional scrolling is enhanced by intelligent sensing features, including:
-- Speed-adjustment, which allows users to control the distance scrolled by the speed that their finger moves along the sensor. The faster the finger moves, the further the user scrolls. -- Continuous scrolling, eliminating the need for users to lift their finger repeatedly to scroll longer distances. Simply scroll once in the desired direction, and hold the finger at the edge of the sensor to continue scrolling.
"We worked closely with Logitech to create a thin and flexible ScrollStrip solution to support Logitech's compact mouse design," explained Don Kirby, Synaptics' General Manager of PC Products. "Over 50 percent of notebook computers use Synaptics capacitive TouchPad and TouchStyk products. As a result, users are very familiar with Synaptics' solutions, making a natural transition from notebook to mobile mouse."
"Today's notebook users are looking for the best in comfort, convenience and reliability," said Ashish Arora, Logitech director of product marketing for Retail Pointing Devices. "By working with Synaptics, we have created a sleek, solid state four-way scroll panel that offers a higher level of performance and control than other mobile mice on the market today, making mobile computing easier and more productive."
The Logitech V500 Cordless Notebook Mouse will be available in retail stores in the United States, Europe and Asia, beginning later this month. It will also be available at www.logitech.com. Suggested retail price in the U.S. is $69.95.
