Synaptics Brings ChiralMotion(TM) to Logitech diNovo Edge Wireless Keyboard

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov 15, 2006 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Synaptics Incorporated (Nasdaq: SYNA), a leading developer of interface solutions for mobile computing, communications and entertainment devices, has developed a ChiralMotion(TM)-enabled TouchPad(TM), branded TouchDisc(TM), for the new Logitech(R) diNovo(TM) Edge keyboard.

The impressively slim and beautifully designed diNovo Edge keyboard includes a number of premium features, including embedded wireless Bluetooth(R) technology, dynamic backlighted icons and media controls, as well as Synaptics' custom-designed ChiralMotion-enabled TouchPad. An evolution of the traditional TouchPad, this solution combines standard cursor control and scrolling, and allows intuitive switching between the two. Once the scrolling mode is initiated by placing a finger in the 12 o'clock or 3 o'clock position of the circle-shaped area, the user can scroll continuously and is not confined to any specific location or motion on the TouchPad.

ChiralMotion includes several unique features such as speed-adjusted scrolling, which adjusts the speed of the scrolling by the rate at which the finger moves across the TouchPad, and precision scrolling, which relates the scrolling distance on screen directly to the finger motion on the TouchPad and allows users to accurately move both long and short pixel-perfect distances. This type of intelligent sensing provides a quick and easy way to navigate, scroll through and select digital content.

"We worked closely with Logitech to use our patented ChiralMotion technology to create an intuitive interface focused on improving the navigation and scrolling experience," said Tom Tiernan, Synaptics general manager. "Logitech's diNovo Edge delivers a premium experience."

"With its elegant simplicity, Synaptics' ChiralMotion technology lends itself to the minimalist design of the diNovo Edge keyboard," said Denis Pavillard, Logitech vice president of product marketing for desktops. "The TouchDisc allows people to intuitively navigate the PC with ease whether leaning back from the desk or when using the keyboard with a media PC in the living room."
