Acer Selects Synaptics Precision TouchPad Solutions for E Series of Notebook PCs

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Synaptics Inc. (NASDAQ: SYNA), the leading developer of human interface solutions, today announced that leading notebook PC manufacturer Acer has selected the Precision TouchPad for its E Series of notebook PCs.  Synaptics is leading the implementation of the Microsoft Precision TouchPad, a high performance TouchPad that provides a consistent, uniform experience across OEM designs. Synaptics will also integrate TypeGuard™ 2.5 into Precision TouchPad, a combination which delivers smoother scrolling, improved pinch to zoom and the most sophisticated touchpad experience to date for notebook PCs users.

Acer is the first major OEM to implement Synaptics' patented TypeGuard technology which allows the system to differentiate between a finger and a palm, virtually eliminating accidental cursor movements, scrolling and clicks. Based on Synaptics' 2014 CES Award winning TypeGuard technology, the next generation was specifically designed to enhance the Microsoft Precision TouchPad. By leveraging Precision TouchPad, Acer is able to design significantly thinner notebook PCs while maintaining the rigidity of a much thicker and heavier design.

"Acer is proud to work with Synaptics to bring the Precision TouchPad to the premium Acer Notebooks. Synaptics has worked hard to deliver the Precision Touchpad to Acer which will give our notebooks a great and uniform touch experience" said Jackson Lin, CTO & president, Design Center and Notebook BG for Acer. "With the combination of Acer technology and Synaptics' implementation of Precision TouchPad, Acer is delivering an unrivaled premium touchpad experience."

"As a leading innovator in the development of new TouchPad solutions, we're excited to partner with Acer in the development of its premium notebook series" said Godfrey Cheng, vice president, Human Interface Systems Division for Synaptics. "By combining key solutions like Precision TouchPad and TypeGuard, Acer will deliver the premium touch experience that consumers have come to expect from Acer."
